Every afternoon around four o’clock my daughter stops what she’s doing, runs to wherever I am, puts her face right up to mine and gives me one of her little kisses (which are really her just sucking on her teeth, mimicking the sound I make when I give her kisses.) For only another moment more, she wraps her little arms around my neck, puts her head on my shoulder and sighs in contentment. I can only hold her for about a minute until she leaps up and resumes whatever it was she was previously engaged with.
This is not something I have taught her to do.
It is easily the best daily ritual I’ve ever experienced.
